TOGA’s Scientific Committee Meeting Recap – August 2024

A re-cap of the Scientific Committee meeting in August 2024.

  • Clinical trial concepts in mesothelioma, thymoma*, and supportive care for lung cancer patients were presented and endorsed.
  • The supportive care concepts addressed fear of cancer recurrence and screening for unmet supportive care needs in people living with lung cancer.
  • A study examining differences in tumour tissue and the impact on survival and relapse was also endorsed. This study will use the data and sample sets collected as part of TOGA’s ASPiRATION study. The ASPiRATION study offered comprehensive genomic profiling to all metastatic NSCLC patients so they could be matched to options offering therapies targeted to any particular mutations that drove cancer growth. This study is now closed to recruitment, but contributed to the approval of a similar type of test under Medicare.

TOGA is always looking for research to review and endorse. If you would like to submit a proposal for peer-review and endorsement, you can read more about the process here.  If you have a proposal due for competitive funding before that date and would like TOGA peer-review and endorsement, please contact info@thoraciconcology.org.au and include the date of your submission.
