Funding Opportunities

This grant supports genomics research across the pipeline, with relevance to lung cancer and mesothelioma in several streams. It prioritises improved access to genomic testing and liquid biopsy (Stream 1; $2.5 million; 5 years), discovery of new targets and disease models (Stream 2; $5million; 5 years), and integration of genomics into routine care (Stream 5; $3million; 5 years). Infrastructure funding (Stream 6; $6 million; 5 years) enables national data sharing and AI-driven analysis.

Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose a Phase III clinical trial in Australia in collaboration with international counterparts.  Where applicants are proposing to lead an international collaborative clinical trial, MRFF funding is available to support overarching coordination of trial sites both in Australia and overseas and to operate one or more clinical trial sites in Australia. Alternatively, where applicants are proposing to contribute to clinical trials initiated by the international partners, MRFF funding is available to coordinate Australian involvement and to conduct one or more clinical trial sites in Australia. The clinical trial should not have commenced recruitment at the Australian trial site/s. Please note the 2026 MRFF International Clinical Trial Collaborations grant opportunity will be open for one round only.

The NHMRC Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grant scheme funds high-quality clinical trials and cohort studies that address important gaps in knowledge and generate findings that can be implemented to improve human health. Proposals may include trials or prospective or retrospective cohort studies of any size. Funding supports research activity rather than ongoing infrastructure and requires milestone reporting annually. In 2025, this scheme was altered so the consumer and community involvement criteria will have a weighting of 20% of the overall score. See archived opportunity GO7814 for details
