About us

The Thoracic Oncology Group of Australasia (TOGA) is the leading collaborative network driving mesothelioma and lung cancer research and clinical trials across Australia and New Zealand.

TOGA is the leading authority in Australia & New Zealand for the study of thoracic cancers.

TOGA brings together national and international experts in thoracic cancer care, and people living with thoracic cancers (lung cancer and mesothelioma) to identify how developing research and unmet need are driving new standards in care.

Together, TOGA designs, secures funding and conducts clinical trials to ensure the translation of research advances through implementing pilot infrastructure, educating healthcare professionals and advocating for PBS and MBS reimbursement.

With a membership drawing from across Australasia, TOGA is able to drive improved thoracic cancer care and research for healthcare professionals in all major Australian hospitals treating thoracic cancer, and people living with thoracic cancers.

Since TOGA’s inception in 2020, we have endorsed 12 research concepts and supproted 38 clinical trials that contribute to improving the outcome and quality of life for thoracic oncology patients. More on TOGA’s Impact

Our Vision

To eliminate thoracic cancers as a source of death, disability and suffering.

Our Mission

To prevent, treat and cure thoracic cancers through research, clinical trials, education and advocacy.

What We Do

Collaborative Clinical Trial Research

TOGA brings together experts from every part of lung cancer care — prevention, diagnosis, treatment, supportive care, and survivorship. We connect the laboratory, clinic and patient community to research design to the clinic, ensuring  clinical and patient needs shape future research.

With strong partnerships across government, industry, and healthcare services, we turn research ideas into real projects that expand treatment options for people with thoracic cancers.

Thoracic Oncology Education

Research only changes lives when it changes practice. TOGA equips healthcare professionals to deliver the latest evidence-based care, through a tailored education program and empowers patients and families to ask about new options.

Advocacy

TOGA is a trusted voice for thoracic cancer. We raise awareness, provide robust evidence to encourage government funding for thoracic cancer research, diagnosis, treatments and services, and work to close the gaps in access and equity of care. Above all, we champion the latest peer-reviewed research so every patient can benefit from the best available treatments.
