Every breakthrough starts with an idea. Your support can help turn today’s discoveries into tomorrow’s standard of care.
Whether your experience has been with lung cancer, mesothelioma, another thoracic cancer, a lung screening program, or through supporting someone you love, many people reach a point where they want to give back.
For some, supporting research becomes part of finding meaning after their experience.
For others, it is about creating a better future for patients that they may never meet.
Whatever brings you here, thank you for considering how you might help improve care for future patients.
Why Support Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma Research?
Research has transformed outcomes for many people with thoracic cancers. Targeted therapies, immunotherapy, improved surgery, earlier diagnosis through lung cancer screening and better supportive care have all been made possible because patients participated in research and others chose to support it. Yet many important questions remain.
Why do some treatments work exceptionally well for some people but not others?
Can treatment be safely reduced for some patients while intensified for others?
How can we ensure every patient benefits from new discoveries, regardless of where they live?
Answering these questions requires continued investment in research.
How TOGA Creates Change
The Thoracic Oncology Group of Australasia (TOGA) is Australia’s leading collaborative thoracic cancer research organisation.
We bring together clinicians, researchers, consumers, hospitals, universities, philanthropists and industry to improve outcomes for every patient with a thoracic cancer. Our work extends beyond clinical trials. We connect biological discovery with clinical trials, implementation research and policy change so that new evidence reaches patients sooner.
Your Support Helps Fund the Next Breakthrough
Some of the most important discoveries begin long before a clinical trial. TOGA’s Inspirational Research Grants provide seed funding for innovative ideas that may otherwise struggle to attract traditional funding.
These grants support laboratory research, biomarker discovery, models of care, implementation research and other projects that improve outcomes for people affected by lung cancer and mesothelioma. Importantly, they also help researchers generate the preliminary evidence needed to secure larger national and international grants.
Many of tomorrow’s breakthroughs begin with a relatively small investment today.
More than Funding Research
Supporting research does more than fund individual projects. It helps:
- Attract talented researchers into thoracic cancer
- Develop the next generation of clinician researchers
- Generate evidence for larger competitive grants
- Improve clinical trials
- Accelerate implementation into routine care
- Influence policy so advances become available to all patients.
Every contribution strengthens the pathway from discovery to better patient outcomes.
There are Many Ways to Support Research
Every person’s circumstances are different.
You may wish to:
- Make a one-off donation
- Become a regular supporter
- Fundraise in your community
- Discuss a major gift
- Leave a gift in your Will
- Introduce us to someone who shares your passion for improving outcomes.
If you’re unsure where to start, we’d be pleased to have a conversation. There is no obligation.
