Vicki Hamilton OAM, CEO/Secretary of the Asbestos Council of Victoria/GARDS, brings over two decades of dedicated advocacy and support for individuals affected by asbestos-related diseases. Having personally experienced the impact of asbestos-related disease through the loss of her father, grandfather and her godfather, Vicki has channelled her commitment into extensive community service. Since 2002, she has led support groups for sufferers and their families, expanding her efforts in 2019 to include those affected by silica exposure.
Vicki’s expertise includes direct support to patients, providing essential medical equipment and offering emotional support through home and hospital visits. Her advocacy extends to lobbying at all levels of government to improve outcomes for sufferers, raising public awareness through media engagements, and educating future healthcare professionals and tradespeople about the dangers of asbestos and silica.
She is an influential voice in several key committees, including the Victorian Lung Cancer Registry Mesothelioma Steering Committee and the Asbestos & Silica Safety & Eradication Agency (Federal Government), where she serves as a full council member. Her leadership roles, such as Chair of the Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Service Consumer Reference Group, highlight her deep commitment to the community and her effectiveness as a consumer advocate.
Recognised for her service, Vicki was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2014. Her extensive experience and unwavering dedication make her an invaluable contributor.
