A/Prof Susan Harden is Radiation Oncology Lead for Research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, specialising in thoracic malignancies. At Monash University Cancer Research Programme she is CIA for the Victorian Mesothelioma Outcomes Registry (VMOR) which collects and reports information on clinical treatments and quality of life through a customised patient reported outcome and experience measures survey. She trained in the UK, obtained a Doctorate in Medicine from Oxford University for translational research undertaken at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA and worked as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in Cambridge 2006-2019.
In 2016, she was appointed as the first oncology clinical lead for the English Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma registries. As senior clinical lead for mesothelioma, she extended outcomes reporting to include peritoneal mesothelioma and joined the British Thoracic Society committee to develop the recently published 2023 BTS Guidelines for Pleural Disease. She moved to Australia in 2019, establishing VMOR in 2022. She is a member of the Commonwealth Mesothelioma Alliance, an investigator for the Australian Lung Cancer Platform project and LUCAP Clinical Reference Group and was elected to the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer’s Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards committee in 2023 and to their Staging and Prognostic Factors Group in 2024.
