Arnaud Scherpereel is Full Professor of Respiratory Medicine since 2008 in the Pulmonary and Thoracic Oncology Department. He is the head of the Heart, Lung and Vessels division in Lille University Hospital (CHU), France. Since his post-doctoral research fellowship in the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, he has a special focus in Thoracic Oncology and Pleural Disease, taking care of patients in particular with lung cancer, pleural mesothelioma (PM). He created and is coordinating for 12 years the French National expert multidisciplinary network for PM (“NETMESO”). His main research topics include tumor immunology, angiogenesis and innovative anti-tumor treatments, as well as non-invasive tools for lung cancer or PM early diagnosis. He was part of, and regularly coordinated, many studies and clinical trials since 2003, leading to over 120 communications in international meetings (and (co)authoring of 280 others). He is (co)author of more than 200 original publications in peer-reviewed journals, including several internationally-known publications. He was the recipient in 2019 of the first European Respiratory Society (ERS) Gold Medal in Lung Cancer. Finally, Prof Scherpereel is highly involved in education, cowriting guidelines, and being the current President of the international Mesothelioma interest group (iMig; 2021-2025).
