Research Prioritisation in Lung Cancer Survivorship
With the advent of new and more effective lung cancer treatments in the last 10 years and the emerging data supporting screening, there is, and will continue to be, a growing number of lung cancer survivors who either have had surgery or radiotherapy for early disease, and/or remain on long-term treatments having had successive lines of different funded treatments or treatments within clinical trials.
Traditionally survivorship services have catered for patients who have received treatment with curative intent, but even amongst this population, lung cancer survivors may have different needs, particularly as curative therapy is increasingly involving multimodality treatment. Moreover, lung cancer is not one disease, it is comprised of many subtypes, with an increasing number of oncogene driver mutation subtypes, and groups with high sensitivity to immune therapies leading to an increasing population of patients “living” with cancer. Hence the need for a survivorship program that helps people live well after their lung cancer treatment journey or to live well with lung cancer.
This workshop, to be held on Friday, 13 May from 9:30am – 4:30pm AEST with accompanying live stream, aims to discuss:
- Survivorship needs for people with lung cancer
- Different models of existing survivorship services
- Selected topics of unmet need explored in more depth including where there is no evidence or a lack of implementation of existing evidence
- Areas where there is a need to research effective interventions to support survivorship care including research priorities, concept design and proposals
The workshop will take place at the RACV Club located at 501 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.
