TOGA’s Scientific Committee Meeting Recap – November 2025

Key Highlights 2025

Over the year, 18 submissions were received for TOGA’s scientific review and consideration. 

• 4 submissions were related to existing surveys focused on thoracic cancers and/or thoracic cancer patient perspectives, which were approved by working group co-chairs and the scientific chair, and disseminated to relevant TOGA members. 

• 2 trial concepts were paused prior to scientific review.  

The remaining 12 concepts were reviewed by one or more relevant TOGA Working Groups, including patient advocates that are part of each of the working groups or Scientific Committee. 

All 12 concepts were recommended by the Working Groups to the Scientific Committee with all receiving endorsement. 

The breadth of the endorsed concepts include: 

• Testing different radiotherapy interventions in advanced NSCLC and SCLC to improve patient outcomes and enhance existing treatments. These concepts include international clinical trials, through both an Australia-led study and bringing an international study to Australia 

• Exploring the feasibility of new diagnostic technologies 

• Investigating new therapeutics across mesothelioma and transformed SCLC – two areas of significant unmet need 

• Supporting the new Mesothelioma treatment guidelines and recommendations 

At the time of writing, the concepts are at the following stages: 

• 1 x Technology feasibility study underway 

• 1 x Conducting site feasibility evaluation and selection 

• 3 x Currently in discussions for industry support 

• 1 x Funding applications currently in draft and yet to be submitted 

• 3 x Applied for grant funding and awaiting outcomes 

• 2 x Funding application unsuccessful and exploring alternative opportunities 

• Mesothelioma guidelines to be published in early 2026
