TOGA Launches New Strategic Plan 2025–2028 to Advance Thoracic Cancer Research in Australasia

TOGA’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan sets a bold direction to expand research, grow leadership, and improve care for people with thoracic cancers

The Thoracic Oncology Group of Australasia (TOGA) has launched its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, marking a new phase of purposeful growth for the organisation in thoracic cancer research and clinical trials across Australia and New Zealand.

The first five years of TOGA’s journey focused on rebuilding and establishing itself as a trusted leader in lung cancer and thoracic oncology clinical trials in Australasia. With a solid foundation now in place, the next three years will see TOGA deepen its impact, strengthen its core activities, and expand its reach in lung cancer research, education, and membership.

Key Priorities Driving TOGA’s Strategic Growth Over the Next Three Years

Over the next three years, TOGA will strengthen its core activities, scale areas of proven value, and remain open to bold opportunities that align with our mission. We will also continue raising awareness of both our organisation and the urgent need to accelerate progress in thoracic cancer, Australia’s leading cause of cancer death.

Woven into the new Strategic Plan are four key priorities:

  • Growing the next generation of thoracic cancer trialists and research leaders
  • Expanding our reach across research, education, and membership
  • Recognising and tailoring engagement to meet the needs of our diverse membership base
  • Pursuing research excellence as the most powerful pathway toward improving outcomes and, ultimately, finding a cure

Now it’s time to consolidate that progress, extend our influence, and stay focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for people affected by thoracic cancer."

The 2025–2028 Strategic Plan sets a clear path for TOGA to continue driving high-quality, locally relevant thoracic cancer research and clinical trials that improve outcomes for people living with lung cancer across Australia and New Zealand.
