Michael Boyer - Medical Oncologist

Prof Michael Boyer is a practising medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of thoracic cancers and is CEO and Conjoint Chair of Medical Oncology and Thoracic Oncology at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.

He also holds an appointment as a conjoint professor within the Central Clinical School of the University of Sydney, and currently serves on the  Board of Directors at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. He served on the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) from 2009 – 2013 and from 2015 – 2019.

Michael is former Chief Clinical Officer at Lifehouse, is a former director of the Sydney Cancer Centre and a former area director of Cancer Services for the Sydney South West Area Health Service. In 2010, he was made a member of the Order of Australia for his work as an educator, a clinical trials researcher and for his involvement in the development of integrated care facilities for people suffering with cancer.

In 2021, Michael was awarded the IASLC Adi F. Gazdar Merit Award for his commitment to lung cancer research. Michael has a PhD in cell biology from the University of Toronto and continues to be actively involved in research, focusing on the testing of new anticancer drugs for the treatment of lung cancer.
