Stephen Clarke is a medical oncologist at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is the Director of the North Star VNP Cancer Trials Unit in Northern Sydney Local Health District.
After completing his medical oncology training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Stephen undertook a PhD in the Phase I trials unit of the Institute of Cancer Research/Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, before returning to Australia in 1994.
He has clinical and research interests in thoracic and GI cancers, including mesothelioma.
His research has achieved over $30 million in competitive grant funding that has led to over 400 publications with a Google Scholar Impact Factor of 85. He was included in the top 2% of cited researchers in the world in 2024.
His work has been recognized by an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2011, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA) Cancer Achievement Award in 2016 and the Eric Susman Prize (2013), the College Medal (2019) and John Sands Medal (2020) from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
