Jon Graftdyk was diagnosed with Stage IV ALK+ lung cancer in 2022 and has since become an active consumer representative and advocate within the lung cancer sector.

He is the Chairperson and Co-founder of ALK Positive Australia, where he works to represent the perspectives of patients and families affected by ALK+ lung cancer and contributes to initiatives relating to research, treatment access and policy, including efforts to raise funds to directly support ALK+ lung cancer research.

Jon serves as a Consumer Representative on the Thoracic Oncology Group Australasia (TOGA) Scientific Committee and is also a member of the TOGA Consumer Panel, contributing to research prioritisation and consumer engagement initiatives in thoracic oncology.

He is actively involved in a range of cancer research and consumer engagement activities, including as Co-Chair of the Consumer Engagement Advisory Committee at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and as a member of the Peter Mac Research Consumer Engagement Program Board and Work and Cancer Governance Committee.

Jon is also a member of the Cancer Council Victoria Community Advisory Network, a Cancer Connect volunteer, and a Consumer Assessor for cancer research grant applications. In addition, he contributes to clinical research through roles including Consumer Representative for the ASPiRATION-2 Liquid Trial and as a member of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Consumer Register.

He has also co-authored a published paper in the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Pathology Journal relating to recommendations for molecular testing of lung cancer in Australia.
